First Camera Ever Made. By the scientist and inventor Alhazen. In 1685 he proposed a design for the first handheld reflex camera. George Eastman popularized photographic film in 1885. Sony put out the first consumer camcorder allowing people to record their memories in real time.
Not much progress was made in the development for up to approximately 130 years later. However the earliest photographs were not taken with Alexander Wolcotts invention. The first portable camera was designed by Johann Zahn in 1685. It was not until the year 1814 when Joseph Nicephore Niepce clicked the first photograph. By 1991 Kodak had produced the first digital camera that was advanced enough to be used successfully by professionals. A natural phenomenon known as camera obscura or pinhole image can project a reversed image through a small opening onto an opposite surface.

Most of the attempts to make cameras in between were futile. The photograph Niepce succeeded in creating shows the view from his window. Johann Zahn is usually co-credited with inventing the camera. However camera like devices appeared years earlier. It was invented around 1000 AD. The first camera was invented by Alexander Wolcott.
